Central Wasatch Commission "Mountain Transportation System Plan" Public Comment due on Sunday, March 1

The frequency of visitation and variety of uses are increasing in one, if not the busiest forests in the Nation. Several efforts are underway to understand, address, and remedy the issues that are causing an undesirable and unsafe experience in the Cottonwood Canyons.

Save Our Canyons, on behalf of our members and broader community has worked to find solutions that alleviate the impacts from single occupancy vehicles. Protecting the water, habitat, and ecosystem are paramount as we seek to continue our mission to protect the Wasatch Mountains.

Over the course of 2020 the “Mountain Transportation System Planning and Scoping” process, “Aims to arrive at a proposed comprehensive year-round transportation system that includes the Salt Lake Valley, Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, Parleys Canyon and connections to the Wasatch Back.” This holistic approach is one that SOC has long advocated for including during the Mountain Accord.

This scoping process will, “Further refine and develop the transportation principles and initiatives of the Mountain Accord” by continuing to focus on four central goals and guidance from that collaborative, consensus driven process (CWC planning and scoping document).  You can also view or download our pdfWasatch Planning Maps

The Central Wasatch is a unique landscape for its diversity of flora and fauna, recreational opportunities, dependable watershed, and proximity to such a vibrant, urban area. Our desire to experience our public lands in these areas will only continue to grow which is why we ask you to take a moment to submit your perspectives and comments to the CWC below. We have created a sample letter, but please feel free to add your personal comments, ideas and perspectives to ensure a robust and comprehensive outcome. Comments are due Sunday, March 1.
