SOC KIDS Hike with Canyons School District 5th grade students

Written by

On Saturday, May 18th, Save Our Canyons organized an educational hike for Ms. Madej’s 5th-grade students along the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail in Millcreek Canyon. The hike aimed to offer a guided outdoor experience for students to get the chance to explore the Wasatch.

The event began with participants signing waivers and receiving a brief orientation from Save Our Canyons staff and Rangers from the Salt Lake Ranger District. Students were provided with snacks, drinks, and educational booklets containing information about local hikes, potential wildlife sightings, and the seven principles of Leave No Trace.

As the group embarked on the trail, they enjoyed scenic views and eventually reached the Pipeline Trail, where they took a break and posed for a group photo. On the way back, they dedicated time to collecting litter from the trailhead and surrounding area, concluding their day with a community service activity.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Salt Lake Ranger District for their guidance, as well as to Ms. Madej and all the families who contributed to making this event a success.
