An Internship With Save Our Canyons

“Those who practice the Art of Peace must protect the domain of Mother Nature, the divine reflection of creation, and keep it lovely and fresh.”

Shinto Quote from Morihei Ueshiba

This is Elliott Parkin and I have been working with Save Our Canyons as their Fall Community Engagement and Outreach Intern for the past three months. This internship has been a wonderful experience and I appreciated the time I have worked with Save Our Canyons. This internship was a great learning experience while working on my Master of Arts in Community Leadership and I gained many new skills. These skills range from how to engage communities during a global pandemic, writing blog/social media posts, how to use various forms of social media, and being able to adapt quickly to the immense pressures that environmental organizations go through to protect their local environment. Additionally, it has been a wonderful experience to work with Alex, Grace, and Carl.

You can read more about my "Deep Ecology Photo Voices" project which include insightful reflections on nature and community through various lenses from participants of my project by clicking "Deep Ecology Stories of the Wasatch Range Communities."

Lastly, my Save Our Canyons internship was a wild ride, there were many new experiences that I gained, and I learned a lot from everyone I worked with. Any undergraduate or graduate college student looking for a great internship opportunity should apply for Save Our Canyons internships. It will be great for professional and personal development, plus you would be working with wonderful and supportive people at a great local environmental nonprofit.
