Snowbird Expansion Plans

Snowbird Master Development Plan (Phase 1) Scoping Notice

This summer will keep the USFS Salt Lake Ranger District busy since Snowbird submitted several project proposals as part of the 2011 amended Master Development Plan.  These actions will be looked at as part of an environmental review process which includes soliciting public input.  This is your opportunity to voice your issues and concerns.  All comments must be submitted to the Forest Service by July 28, 2011.

Snowbird Requesting a Land Use Ordinance Amendment in Utah County

Snowbird is now turning to Utah County for its opportunistic expansionist dreams.  On July 19th, there will be a public hearing that will hear Snowbird's request for a proposed Land Use Ordinance Text Amendment to Section 3-47, Accessory Lifts and Associated Facilities in the CE-1 Zone.  This amendment would come to include facilities that would be permitted in association with a conditional use permit:  "6. Mountain resort adventure features, such as zip lines, alpine slides, mountain coasters and similar recreational oriented amenities for a four season resort."  Our recent victory against Snowbird's Mountain Coaster was a significant win for the Wasatch.  However, that victory could be short-lived if Snowbird is successful in getting Utah County to adopt this amendment.  The CE-1 zone is Utah County's most environmentally restrictive zone providing protection for canyon, mountain, riparian areas and a level of protection for the watershed. As Snowbird continues to be a constant threat to the Wasatch we will continue to push for the preservation of this beautiful shared resource.

We need your support.  Attend the public hearing and write comments.  Urge the Utah County Planning Commission to disapprove of this amendment that could resurrect Snowbirds Mountain Coaster.

Please read through Utah County's Staff Report for more information on this proposal.
