A decision memo sent Friday from Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Supervisor, Brian Ferebee, stated the Forest Services intention to renew WPG's outfitter & guide permit for the continued use of Heli Skiing in the area. This renewal differs from past renewals of this permit because the Forest Service issued the permit for double the length of time (from 5 to 10 years) and categorically excluded the re-issuance from any environmental analysis. The FS explains that in past years (1999 & 2004) they have done substantial analysis on this permitted use and that "more accurate quantification of [backcountry] recreational use is not necessary to effective management decision making."
