Revision of Salt Lake County's 1989 Wasatch Canyons Master Plan

Help update Salt Lake County's 1989 Wasatch Canyons Master Plan!

This is a call to action for all that care deeply about the future of the Wasatch Canyons. We are the stewards of the mountains and canyons that have given us an abundance of clean water, a place of refuge for our families, adventure, play, and spectacular beauty. Now it is time for us to give back!

It has been twenty years since Salt Lake County created a Master Plan for the Wasatch Canyons. We have all been the beneficiaries of that process and now the future of the Wasatch is in our hands.  We need each of your voices to guarantee the protection of the watershed, ensure balanced land use, environmental protection, and sustainable transportation.  We are the ones who need to protect our canyons from the corporate development that would diminish our wilderness legacy for future generations.

Envision Utah is leading a process called “Wasatch Canyons Tomorrow.”  The project starts with a series of community dialogues focused on land-use in City Creek, Emigration, Red Butte, Parleys, Millcreek, Big Cottonwood, and Little Cottonwood Canyons. Envision Utah will be conducting workshops using interactive keypad polling, which gages reaction to planning strategies in real time.  The information gathered from these events will greatly influence future protection of our canyons. With the doubling of the county's population in the next 30 years, Wasatch Canyons Tomorrow will strive to ensure the long-term health of these treasured canyons, balancing land-use, transportation, and environmental concern.

On Thursday, May 7th at 11am in Memory Grove (click for directions) Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr., Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker, and U.S. Forest Supervisor Brian Ferebee will kick-off the Wasatch Canyons Tomorrow process and describe the public’s role in developing strategies for the canyons.
