For over thirty years, Matt Kinney has "skinned" his way throughout Thompson Pass and the Valdez Mountains.  He has pioneered endless routes and descent lines that are simply too numerous to  list. A year-round Chugach resident, Matt works (if you can call it that) as a backcountry ski guide. He began producing avalanche and ski forecasting in Valdez over 10 years ago. He has formal avalanche training and has practiced its application for thirty years. He is a Professional Member of the American Avalanche Association and a certified First Responder. In 2006, Matt published “Alaska Backcountry Skiing: Valdez and Thompson Pass”.

Matt will be in Salt Lake City, UT on Friday, August 27th to give a presentation on his experiences as a backcountry ski guide in Alaska and how the heliskiing industry has and is impacting the backcountry of Alaska.
